The Eastern Theater Command General Hospital was established in November 2018, based on the former Nanjing General Hospital of the Nanjing Military Region, the former 81st Hospital (including the 86th Clinical Department), the former 82nd Hospital (including the 149th Clinical Department), and the former 359th Hospital, and included in 15 outpatient departments of government agencies and colleges stationed in Nanjing and surrounding areas.

The hospital currently has 34 national, military, military region, and Jiangsu Province key disciplines. The hospital has world-class medical equipment, including intraoperative radiotherapy machines, "Da Vinci" surgical robots, dual source CT, radiation knives, PET/CT and other modern medical devices. We will promote the intelligent management of hospitals, digitalization of medical information, automation of office work, and precision of medical support. Our information technology level is first-class in the country, and we are one of the first batch of digital demonstration hospitals in the military. The internationally leading technologies include: integrated diagnosis and treatment technology for kidney diseases; Liver, intestine, and spleen multi organ transplantation (the first of its kind in Asia); Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment for Complex Kidney Disease; Pituitary transplantation (the first international case); Small intestine transplantation (the first of its kind in Asia); Treatment of intestinal fistula, etc.

The hospital focuses on comprehensively improving its ability to carry out diversified military tasks and medical support, strengthening the construction of combat readiness quality, and improving green rescue channels. In recent years, it has excellently completed international and domestic peacekeeping and rescue missions such as Liberia peacekeeping, Haiti rescue, Zambia military aid, as well as 9.14 Tangshan poisoning, 8.9 chlorine poisoning, 5.25 major traffic accident, 7.28 Nanjing explosion incident, 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake relief, and 8.2 Kunshan explosion incident.

The hospital has been praised as "National Top 100 Hospital", "National Model Unit of Supporting the Government and Loving the People", "Advanced Hospital for the Army", "exemplary organization for the Construction of National Emergency Professional Forces of the Army", etc. The experience of the construction of "research hospitals" has been listed as a major model publicity by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee.
